Website: www.fin.hneu.edu.ua/?page_id=109 The head of the department is professor, candidate of philological sciences Cheremska Olga Stepanovna. The Department of Ukrainian Studies and Language Training of Foreign Citizens provides improvement of humanitarian knowledge of students of economic higher education, formation of a high level of language competence of the future specialist in professional and scientific spheres of communication according to national and international standards. The task of the department is to promote the mastery of the state language as a tool of professional self-expression and improvement of future economists, to ensure the knowledge of Russian by foreign citizens, to form language and communicative competencies of students and holistic state thinking. 

Educational disciplines assigned to the department:

  • Ukrainian language (for professional purposes);
  • Ukrainian language (for professional purposes) for foreign students;
  • Ukrainian (Russian) as a foreign language (first year);
  • Russian as a foreign language (preparatory department);
  • social and economic history of Ukraine;
  • practical stylistics and copywriting.

Elective courses:

  • “Language of specialty and professional language culture” (II course),
  • “Fundamentals of scientific language in educational and professional activities” (second year),
  • “Genres of scientific style” (III year),
  • “Fundamentals of business communication” (III year).

The competencies of future specialists after studying the discipline “Ukrainian language (for professional purposes)” are covered.

  • knowledge of the norms of the Ukrainian literary language as the basis of the culture of oral and written communication, knowledge of professional terminology;
  • improving communication skills in situations of professional activity;
  • ability to process texts in the specialty in order to find and extract information for research; improvement of language skills of written works of scientific style;
  • skills of compiling and language design of business papers of administrative and clerical direction;
  • ability to verbalize the language support of the presentation of the enterprise and its products; develop advertising, product catalog, etc.

Competences of future specialists after studying the discipline “Ukrainian language (for professional purposes) for foreign students” include:

  • ability to read and understand texts of any content from educational-professional, socio-political and socio-cultural communicative spheres;
  • ability to listen and understand the content of lectures, scientific reports on the specialty;
  • ability to take notes of lectures and scientific literature, write an essay, selecting appropriate language tools and following the rules of writing.

Competences of future specialists after studying the discipline “Ukrainian (Russian) as a foreign language (first year)” include:

  • formation of abilities to produce statements on a given topic, using grammatical material;
  • mastery of forms of text compression, ways of interacting with interlocutors, the ability to present themselves, to lead a discussion;
  • ability to analyze the structure of the text of the abstract and independently compose an abstract of scientific works;
  • the ability to comment on the content of the text, to use various forms of text compression, to express a personal opinion on the content of the text.

Competences of future specialists after studying the discipline “Russian as a foreign language (preparatory department)” include:

  • mastering phonetic, lexical and grammatical material, the ability to build and use in speech syntactic constructions of a given intention in appropriate situations;
  • development of reading, listening, speaking and writing skills, vocabulary enrichment; interpersonal communication skills in an international environment, knowledge of forms of language etiquette;
  • development of linguistic and cultural ideas, acquaintance with the country, history, traditions and culture of the people whose language is being studied.

Competences of future specialists after studying the discipline “Social and Economic History of Ukraine” include:

  • operating with concepts and categories of historical science;
  • ability to use the conceptual and categorical apparatus in the coverage of historical events or phenomena;
  • knowledge of documentary sources of historical information necessary for the analysis of socio-historical phenomena and processes;
  • ability to identify causal, chronological and genetic links between historical phenomena and events; analyze historical events in connection with modernity and in the context of world history;
  • mastery of methods of analysis of historical texts; methods of writing abstracts, preparation of scientific reports.

The competencies of future professionals after studying the discipline “Practical Stylistics and Copywriting” include:

  • knowledge of the rules of functioning of the Ukrainian language in various fields, their use in thinking and speaking activities;
  • knowledge of ways to interact with the environment and individuals, performing various social roles in the team; ability to present oneself, lead a discussion, etc .;
  • formation of student’s values; the ability to choose targeted behavioral strategies using motivated communication tools .;
  • formation of skills of creation of advertising texts, texts of journalistic style.

There are 28 teachers working at the department (one candidate of sciences, professor; 15 – candidates of sciences, associate professors; 2 – candidates of sciences, senior teachers; 7 – senior teachers, 3 – teachers). socio-economic and scientific-technical terminology and problems of teaching language disciplines “,” Current issues of social history of the XIX-XX centuries. ». Scientists of the department have prepared about 20 textbooks with normative and selective disciplines, 4 of them are stamped by the Ministry of Education and Science; textbook “Ukrainian language (for professional purposes)” Our students:

  • winners of the Taras Shevchenko International Ukrainian Language Competition and the P. Jacyk International Ukrainian Language Competition;
  • regular participants of student scientific conferences, scientific circles.

Bachelor programs in English: 

The Bachelor degree program is implemented through teaching the subject of Social and Economic History of Ukraine. It includes 32 lectures and 32 seminars and covers 150 academic hours. The course is supplemented with materials including Moodle electronic platform (updated on regular basis), working program, bibliographical index, online tests etc.

The academic discipline “Social and Economic History of Ukraine” is a normative learning discipline and studied according to the academic plan on preparation of specialists of the educational qualification level “Bachelor” for all forms of learning.

The goals  are to improve students’ understanding of the economic and social processes in the history of Ukraine, their causes and consequences, as well as regularities of social and economic transformations taking place in different periods; to teach students to analyze events of the past for maximizing control over the present situation and planning future activity.

The tasks  are teaching students independently working with primary and secondary sources (oral, written and material ones), critically considering the information got from sources, analyzing and comparing different historical facts and processes, formulating own questions on the basis of historical information, independently making conclusions, presenting and defending own standpoints on every historical problem.
